Termite Costs

Last updated: October 30, 2026 · Prices checked October 30, 2026

Termites do an estimated billions of dollars of damage to US homes every year, almost none of it covered by homeowners insurance. This hub indexes every termite cost we research — treatment, inspection, fumigation and bonds — so you can price the problem before a salesperson prices it for you.

Termite treatment averages $621 per job, with most homeowners paying $263–$1,033. Inspections run $75–$150–$100–$200 when they aren't free, and tent fumigation is the big one: $2,000–$5,000 for most homes.

Which do you need first?

You found mud tubes, swarmers or soft wood: you need an inspection first, then treatment. Read inspection cost (often free when you might buy treatment), then treatment cost by method. You're buying or selling: the WDO report in the inspection guide is the document your lender wants. Drywood termites throughout the house: that's fumigation territory. You want the “never again” contract: that's a termite bond.

Frequently asked questions

How much does termite treatment cost overall?+

Angi's data from 7,800 verified projects puts the average at $621 per job, with most homeowners paying $263–$1,033. Whole-home liquid or bait work runs higher — $500–$2,000 and $1,000–$2,500 respectively.

Does homeowners insurance cover termites?+

Almost never. Insurers treat termite damage as preventable maintenance, which is exactly why the treatment-versus-damage math matters: average damage repair runs about $3,000, against a $621 average treatment.

Which states have the worst termite pressure?+

The Southeast and Gulf Coast — Florida, Georgia, Texas, Louisiana, the Carolinas — plus Hawaii and coastal California. Formosan subterranean termites in the South are the most destructive species in the country, and prices there reflect the demand.
